If you’ve spent a lot of time watching chick flicks (and let’s be honest, who hasn’t?), you might think of the ultimate girls night as being out on the tiles, teetering on high heels until the early hours, and throwing shapes on the dance floor.
While this is a very enjoyable way to pass the time for many, there are many cosier and more comfortable ways to spend a quality night with the girls, involving indoor fun, beauty sleep, and even some bingo games (if you like)!
Here are some ideas for ways to spend the ultimate girls night in.
A rom-com might be your first choice, but depending on who your nearest and dearest are, you could venture out a little bit and watch an art film that focuses on women, such as Frida, or even an inspiring nature documentary such as The Elephant Queen. Whatever you choose to watch, make sure you pile up the cushions, load up the blankets and are as comfortable as possible. Does this mean that everyone will be wearing their pyjamas? Absolutely. (Ooh, and don’t forget the popcorn!)
Some rom-com classics include Clueless, How to Be Single, The Notebook (2004), Bridesmaids and Mean Girls. If you’d like to bring a bit of feline femininity to your film selection, you could also go for something like Catwoman with Halle Berry, or Tomb Raider featuring Alicia Vikander.
While you’re hanging out on comfy sofas, surrounded by cushions and wrapped in cosy blankets, why not use the time (before or after the film, as you like), to do a bit of pampering? This could involve mini manicures or pedicures, or even putting on a face mask. You can use conveniently packaged store-bought varieties, or if you’re feeling very creative, you could even make your own, using common grocery items like honey or avocado.
If you’d like to multitask while pampering, you could even try out some YouTube makeup tutorials together, and help each other master a new look! For everyone who has always wanted to learn how to do a fishtail plait, this could be the time to find out how to do this too or have one of your gal pals practise some braiding techniques with each other’s locks.
If you’re planning any kind of night in, there needs to be good food! Whether that’s popcorn and other nibbles in front of the telly or more elaborate fare, you can decide. If you have some connoisseurs in your friendship circle, why not get them to share their passion for cheese, preserves or maybe fresh pasta with the rest of the crew?
Of course, anything goes, so you could even opt for a themed night where you pick a country and make a few traditional dishes that are associated with it. Or you could keep it simple, and make your own pizza dough: you’ll all have a lot of fun rolling it out into bases and baking them, along with a variety of toppings.
If you’re looking for an easy and convenient form of entertainment, why not try online bingo? Of course, you don’t have to play online games, unless you’re doing a virtual girls night – you can choose from any number of game types.
If you fancy a bit of intrigue, why not host a murder-mystery night with your besties? You can pick from a variety of themes – you’ll find loads of inspiration online – and it can be such a laugh to dress up as different characters and role-play as the plot unfolds.
Alternatively go for oddball games that are interesting or sometimes silly, such as Twister, or even get out some cards or board games. If you’d like to keep it old-school, you could challenge each other to a game of Monopoly (if you can still find it), or perhaps you might prefer to go the kitty-themed route and choose a favourite like The Isle of Cats, Exploding Kittens or Purrrlock Holmes: Furriarty’s Trail (which will be a treat for those who particularly enjoy murder mysteries).
Karaoke is one activity that is just as fun at home as out on the town! Since you’ll be singing in your pyjamas, you can go wild with the song choices too, and not be shy about it. When you’re wearing your pink, comfy, and fluffy monster-feet slippers, there’s no need to hold back!
“Total Eclipse of the Heart”? Bring it on. More than one Spice Girls song? Definitely. Some Celine Dion or Whitney? Perhaps. Whatever you choose, make sure you have a great time belting it out into the mic with your best mates. This will not only be fun but also a great way to release any built-up tension from the week as you hit the high notes (or not).
You also don’t need any fancy equipment (but if you do have it, that’s great). Putting the song on loud and singing into a hairbrush or wooden spoon will be just as fun!
You might not feel like getting the knitting needles out, but craft night could be a wonderful way to while away the time and learn something new, especially if your pals happen to have some creative and/or haberdashery skills.
How about making bracelets or earrings with beads? If you want to go all out, you could do some felting and decorate some tote bags… whatever blows your hair, or fur, back.
Another idea is to make and decorate your own coasters. These are not only useful in general, but after your girls night, they could serve as a reminder of all the fun you had whenever you place drinks on them (they are also helpful for keeping your desk stain-free while working or even playing online slot games).
Of course, if you don’t have the option to get together in person, you can adapt some of the options above to a virtual version. This could include playing online bingo games together (you can meet in the chat room), or even taking part in an online quiz.
There are also many other activities that you could stream at the same time and do together, such as a yoga class, dance class, or even a cooking class – whatever works!
We hope the ideas above have helped inspire you to plan a memorable girls night with your favourite friends. If you’re looking for something fun to do on any other night, how about coming to Kitty Bingo and giving some of our games a go?
To give you a taste of what’s on offer, you can choose to play bingo or slots online, or even try a mix of both with the exciting and fast-paced Slingo bingo!
