Best Kitty-themed Card/Board Games to Play

The cat’s out of the bag – we know you love to play bingo and slots online! But, kitty-lover, are you a fan of cat-themed card and board games, and did you even know that they exist? Whether you've got more cat-themed games than you have cats, or haven't yet dipped your proverbial paw into the world of kitty entertainment (and no, we’re not talking about the endless shenanigans that cats’ “hoomins” get to enjoy), life's about to get a whole lot more fun.

Give the kitty on your keyboard a stroke and take a look at 5 of the most fun cat-themed games to try.

Exploding Kittens

Number of players: 2 to 10 players

Playing time: 5 to 15 minutes

Russian Roulette meets Uno meets kitty madness in this hilarious, adorable, and downright purrfect cat-themed board game. Exploding Kittens is described as “a card game for people who are into kittens and explosions, and laser beams, and sometimes goats.” With incredible artwork by Matthew Inman, the artist who brought us the world-famous The Oatmeal comic brand, this board game has fast become one of the most popular cat-themed games on the cat-lovers block.

It takes two minutes to learn and 15 minutes to play, making it perfect for a quick dose of kitty fun or a few rounds of sheer amusement. Each player draws a card until someone gets an exploding kitten and loses the game. Other cards in the deck allow you to take a peek at cards to avoid drawing an explosion, which forces the next player to draw multiple cards or reshuffle the deck. The game gets more intense with each card drawn, as fewer cards mean more possibility of an explosion.

This game is so popular that a number of different versions and expansions have been released, so the fun just keeps coming!

Cat Lady

Number of players: 2 to 4 cat ladies

Playing time: 15 to 30 minutes

Could you be the ultimate cat lady? In this cat card game, it all depends on whether your collected kitties are happy with their treats! You and the other players will be part of an elite group of cat-lovers, which include Marie Antoinette and Ernest Hemingway. Each player will draw three cards at a time, collecting the cutest cats, food, catnip and toys with each draw. It's a tricky balance, though, because all those kitties need food, and if you find yourself with more feline friends than food, there are bound to be a few catfights, or at least a few points lost! The player with the highest score at the end of the cards is proudly dubbed the craziest of all cat ladies.

Just one thing; this game is not to be confused with “The Cat Lady” video game, which is definitely not about cute fluffy furballs.

Purrlock Holmes

Number of players: 2 to 5 players

Playing time: 20 to 30 minutes

Cats are, of course, the masters of trickery, and who better to solve their mysteries than Purrlock Holmes? Grab your monocle and don your best deerstalker hat; it's time to catch Furriarty! He's been bullying all of Baker Street, and it's up to you to catch Furriarty and his gang before they get away or before the other players do! Each player draws a hidden suspect card, and you’ll be given clues and will each take turns to guess the suspect’s identity. But be warned; each round, Furriarty gets closer to his escape, so you've got to be quick!

Cantankerous Cats

Number of players: 2 to 6 players

Playing time: 20 to 30 minutes

Cantankerous Cats is “a ferocious feline card game of cunning, mischief, and schadenfreude!” and it's as fun as it sounds. You may get to play with cats in some board games, but in this game, you get to fulfil your ultimate fantasy and play as a cat. It's a story as old as time; you, little cat, live in a house with your pet “hoomin” and you're going to need to give them lots of love and affection – to be able to get away with your mischief, of course. The first player to get away with mischief nine times wins!

Here, Kitty, Kitty!

Number of players: 3 to 6 players

Playing time: 20 to 30 minutes

This game allows you to reenact your daily life through a board game – how many kitties can you collect? The neighbourhood has a cat “problem,” and everyone is stepping up to expand their families and bring some adorable feline friends home. Problem is, everyone wants one! So, you've got to lure the cats in and maybe steal a few from your neighbour too! A cat in the house is worth five points, a cat on the porch is worth three points, and a cat in the yard sets you up to win some other cool titles, such as most cats of a certain colour or most cats overall. To make this game even cooler, there are actual cat miniatures you get to play with, 40 just waiting to be collected by you!
